MIDTOWN / DESIGN DISTRICT
These are two distinctive, growing areas north of Downtown Miami.
Midtown Miami was conceived as a large-scale, urban development planned to have several high-rise residential buildings, a hotel, two parks, and a major urban shopping area It will also host an entertainment center including a movie theater and shops.
The Shops of Midtown is an outdoor shopping area designed to be similar to New York’s SOHO neighborhood. It is home to many national and local stores and restaurants and there is an abundance of upscale apartments.
Midtown is the home of Art Miami, a fair which takes place during Miami’s annual Art Basel week.
The Design District is adjacent to Midtown Miami on the north. It consists primarily of old low-rise warehouses and gallery spaces that have been transformed into retail spaces, art galleries, restaurants and cafes. It has become one of the premier destinations in the area for the arts, design and fashion.
The Design District is home to over 130 art galleries, showrooms, creative services, architectural firms, stores, antique dealers, eateries and bars. Each month there is a community-wide Art & Design Night when art galleries and design showrooms open their doors to the public for music and refreshments.
